ADSENSE TIPS - The Real Sign of Success

It's become a new way of measuring the success of a blog.
Publishers aren't just tracking their page views or bragging about
the number of unique users their site attracts; they're talking
about the number of subscribers they have.

It sounds like Old World publishing, the sort that gets left on
your doorstep each morning in return for a fee. But it's not like
that at all.

For one thing, there's no fee.

Online subscribers are not paying in advance to read content in the
same way that offline subscribers do; they're signing up for RSS
feeds and picking up the content in their RSS readers. It's a bit
like getting reading a website in an email instead of on the page.

That means that a site with 1,000 subscribers could get zero page
views. Clearly, as an AdSense publisher, that would be nothing to
be proud of. If no one is seeing your Web pages, no one is seeing
your ads.

And that means you're not making any money.

You can still offer RSS feeds to your users, but make sure that you
limit what the subscriber can see. If they want to learn more they
can come to your site where they can click on your ads.

And just as you can offer RSS feeds, you should also keep a close
eye on the number of your subscribers. It's not your most important
stat -- your clickthrough rate will be much more important -- but
it is a good guide to the popularity of your website. Just don't
confuse it with a sign of real success.

The best sign of that is the size of the check you get from Google.
